Its a small world ...

We decided we'd build on Molly's great doggie weekend by going back to the dog park today. We have been going there a few times a week, but hadn't ventured in during the afternoons when there were dogs there. Today we did some walking first and then headed in. The front pen was empty and there were about 5 dogs in the back pen.

We closed the gates between the 2 areas to start off with and let Molly loose. Her running quickly caught the attention of one of the other dogs who met her at the fence and they ran back and forth a few times. Man, Molly is fast! After a few laps, we opened the gate and headed over to meet everyone.

The dog she was running with is a Rhodesian Ridgeback named King. He was quite a bit taller and bigger than Molly. Next was a pit/lab mix that was all white and looked like he was all pit named Kujo that was about her size. (Seriously, I don't think I'd name a dog Kujo, but that's just me!). There was another lab mix that just stayed lying on the grass and I'm not sure Molly ever met that one. Then there was a smallish dog that was a Scotty-type/lab mix named Emily.

Molly ran and played with the 2 big dogs and when they stopped being interesting she played fetch with her ball. The other dogs were owned by 3 different women who we were talking to. After telling them that Molly was 3.5 yrs old and we had gotten her at Greenhill about 4 months ago, the women that owned the small dog started to pet Molly. As soon as she pet her she then asked us if this was Myla (Molly's original name). (Have I ever mentioned how darn soft Molly is?) I assumed she was a volunteer at Greenhill, but she said that she was the person that owned her for about 1 week. We'd always thought it was longer, but evidently it wasn't! She said that Molly had been too much for her as she was living in a trailer at the time. She was very nice and said that Molly seemed really well adjusted. Molly didn't seem to recognize the lady. Molly was nice to the lady, but she's nice to everyone anyway. Strange to meet her though!

Oh and to round out the dog park adventure, she also met a shepard, a beagle-y thing, and 2 small white fluff balls. She ran herself silly and drank a whole bottle of water when we got back to the car. Dave has decided she is a sprinter and not built for endurance. Whatever it is, it makes for one sleepy beasty!

I'm interested in the "beagle-y thing." Also confused by it.

That's so weird you met one of Molly's previous owners. I'm glad she didn't go running over to the lady and sit on her feet and refuse to go with you impostors! That would've been sad!

Oh, and thank you very much because now I have that annoying song going through my head.

It's a small, small world...

I think the fact that we had pockets full of treats was working in our favor!

We went to the dog park again today and she played. We've now learned that she's actually pretty astute. She seems to figure out quickly the dogs that she's comfortable playing with and steers clear when the playing gets to be a bit too much. There were 3 large, male dogs that she'd played with individually. But, when the 3 of them started rough housing she just trotted off to find some other fun. Later on a new pit came it and she met it, but then stay away from it. After a bit the pit ganged up on a little dog and really freaked out the owner. It's nice that she seems to monitor her encounters so well.

I did. I woke up for a snack. And to sing "It's a Small World" some more. Now I'm going back to bed.
