Have you made a new friend yet today?!

MOLLY HAS!!! Yippee!

As we've done the past number of weekends, we took Molly to the park that has the dog park. We go there a number of times during the week to get her in the vicinity of other dogs. In fact, Molly and I spent 1 hour at that park yesterday for her afternoon constitution (again, walk to the lay person). But, we've been able to be the only people and dog there on weekend mornings so Molly's been able to go into one of the sides of the dog park to play.

Today was slightly different. We got there early and a man and a yellow lab were in the side of the dog park that we often go to. We decided to just walk her around the general park part. They left after about 20 minutes and we headed in. Molly was her normal happy self. Then things got better because we played with a ball! She ran and ran and jumped and had a great time. After about 15 minutes of that a lady and a border collie dog entered the other side of the pen. The dog and lady seemed to be staying on the far side of their area and we were in the middle-ish of our area. After a few minutes the the border collie saw Molly take off for the ball and came running to the wire fence the divides the two pens. Molly noticed, but didn't care for a few minutes. Then the other doggie started to make juking motions to get Molly to play ... and it worked. Molly ran to the fence and the doggies met from there. It was great to watch how fast both of their tails were wagging!

Dave and I just stayed in the middle of the area we were in. After a few sniffs the dogs ran together on either side of the fence. They were both running really fast and moving up and down the fence and having lots of fun. We started talking to the lady (Karen) and found out that her dog was a 5 month old Border Collie mix (Quincy) that she'd adopted from Greenhill. Karen uses a walker and said that this is the first time that they'd been to the dog park. Evidently her yard is small and she can't move around much, so Quincy doesn't get to run. She was thrilled that he and Molly were running and running.

They were playing together through the fence so great that we asked her if she was okay with us coming over and she was. On the next lap that the dogs took I opened one of the gates between the two pens and when they reached the gate they slowed down. They sorta seemed surprised to be right by each other. They went through a few minutes of sniffing and circling each other and then the running ensued again! This time they could bump into each other and really play. Turns out Molly is a bit of a bully! She was running into Quincy while at a full run and basically pushing him out of the way. Since he's a puppy, he'd just flopped down on the ground and then bounced back up! Sometimes he do a somersault thingy and take off after her. They had a lot of fun and it was great for us to see her so happy!

Since she'd already run so much she got tired before the puppy and she was ready to go. We leashed her back up and walked out. She was happy to play, but happy to be done with that too! She's really happy, tired and pretty dirty! Turns out Quincy drool makes Molly's fur stand up straight out on her sides! She's so ready to head up to her futon and pillow and rack out for the rest of the morning!

Here's to a great 3-day weekend to all and to making new friends!

I knew MOlly could do it! She's gonna like Gus - that's the game he's best at!

Koji, too!

Did Quincy match her collar?

Great fun for both dogs. Did you make plans for a Play Date with Quincy?

Thanks guys for the encouragement for Molly and her friend making ability.

Molly would love to play with Gus, Koji and Teca! We'll try to make that happen this September!

As for the questions: No, Quincy did not match her collar - but, he did match her! He was mostly black with white feet and some white in his face. So, maybe Teca should watch out! And we did not make an official play date with Quincy, but we did tell the owner that were that at that time most weekends. The lady was really talkative and a bit nutty (in a nice way), so we didn't really want to make best friends with her. But, hopefully we'll run into them again!
