Spencers Butte (with an E)

Here's the wiki definition: A butte (IPA: /bju:t/) is an isolated hill with steep, often vertical sides and a small flat top, smaller than mesas, plateaus, and tables. In some regions the word is simply used for any hill. Buttes are prevalent in the western United States. The word "butte" comes from a French word meaning "small hill"; its use is prevalent in the western United States except the southwest, where "mesa" is used instead.

Needless to say, we've got a few buttes in town. The largest one is on the southern edge of town. To get to the summit there are 2 routes. One is .6 miles and very steep. The other is 1.06 miles and isn't so steep. I just wikied Spencers Butte and found out it is 2055 ft tall. I also learned that the native American word for the butte was rattlesnake ... now I'm scared. We've hiked the butte before, but it had been awhile. We headed up to the top on Monday and had a great time. So much, in fact, that we've already decided to hike it again on Sunday when Dave doesn't have to be at work until noon. Here's some trees at the start of the trail. They will be quite lovely as the leaves turn in the fall.

I've probably commented before, but there are shades of green in OR that I've never seen anywhere else.

Here's a shot from the top.

That's a spectacular view from the top of the butt. Butte. Whatever.

Very pretty. Not ADA-compliant, of course, but very pretty nonetheless...

Definitely not ADA-compliant ... although we did see a family with 2 kids in a stroller (the 3-wheel jogging type) pushing them up the trail. I get that having children isn't a disability. I just that this family was making do with their current age-limitations presented by their kids.
