Garden update, trip to the coast, freaky sunset, and another visit to the elk

So, we've been busy since returning from our NY/NJ trip. Work, life, and for Dave - politics on a near 24-hr basis. Within all of that we've still managed to have some fun! These first shots are from this past Saturday. The 2 red tomatoes were eaten on Sunday and they were yummy! I've now got about 8 more nearing ripeness ... about 900 to go! The wrinkley ones are a "pleated" heirloom variety. I'll let you all know how they taste once they ripen.

With Dave's new job he works most weekends, when I'm off. We still spend plenty of time together, but we decided to have a day off together today. I played hookie for the day and we headed to Bandon, OR. Bandon (also referred to as Bandon-by-the-Sea) is a small coastal town on the south coast. It is a quaint town with lots and lots of wind!
We ate some clam chowder (not the best we've ever had) and fish and chips (pretty good!), wandered through the shops and galleries - and ended up at the Fudge Factory so Dave could continue to prove why he is known as the Fudge Uncle to our nieces and nephew.

From there we headed to coast. We came prepared with a kite, which we did get up in the air. It did have some issues ... the string came loose and Dave had to run it down - not once, but twice.

After putting the kite back in the car, we just enjoyed a nice walk along the beach to admire the many rock formations in the water.

I also had a picture (albeit not a very good quality picture) of an out of this world sunset we had a week or so ago. The sky was a shade of hot pink that I've never seen in nature before. Sorry for the fuzzy stuff in the foreground. I don't have a tripod and was holding as still as I could!

Oh, and one last picture to finish up this catch-all post! You may recall we did a coast trip last fall that took us past an elk viewing area ... but we were camera-less. We went back prepared today and caught a rather good size herd. I promise a more focused post in the near future! Enjoy your 3-day weekend!

Focus, schmocus! That was a good catch-all post. Tomatoes, fudge, sunsets and elk... what else could you want?

Sounds like a fun trip (except for the wind - I'm not a fan)!
