They grow big in Oregon ...

For those of you that follow our blog, you may remember a post last summer about a "lettuce plant". It wasn't lettuce, but a poppy that was on steroids. Earlier this spring, we also posted pics of another poppy that was quite lovely and had very big flowers. Evidently, things grow big in Oregon.

Last year when we pulled out the grass and put in the flower bed in front we bought a lot of plants that were supposed to do good in this climate. We wanted to plant perennials, so that we wouldn't have to spend lots of $$ each year. The hope was the plants we purchased in Year One would fill in the space nicely over time. We got some plants that were supposed to grow taller and used them at the back of the planter bed by the porch. We bought plants that had different color leaves and flowers and textures, with the hope that even if there weren't any flowers, the plants themselves would be pretty to look at.

I don't know if any of that came true. I do know that they grow big in Oregon.
