Just add sun

We are still learning how the seasons work in OR. Yes, we actually have all four seasons represented - not like Koji's Kitchen living in the land of 80 degrees at Christmas. We've been told by locals that rains can be expected through June and that July and August are the months that are generally dry. There was lots of rain and more snow than usual this winter, so spring has been in the process of springing for a month or so. Things are green. And living in other states prior to OR, there is a quality of green that I have never seen anywhere else. I really can't describe it. It's a shade of green that almost seems to bright to exist in nature. I'd expect to see it on a pop-art painting or a hip t-shirt, but not in a field.

Another tell-tale sign that spring has sprung is Dave's allergies. Given he has got such bad allergies, you would think we would have thought longer about moving just south of the "grass seed capital", but we didn't! He's got 3-types of doctor prescribed medicine and some over the counter stuff we bought in our travels to CA (since you cannot buy it in OR).

Another sign that the seasons are changing is the flower and vegetable gardens. Nearly all of the stuff we planted last year in the front is thriving. The flowers in the back of the bed were about 6 inches tall a month ago.
Now they are probably at least 3 ft.

Then there are the strange poppy flowers. The flower buds are about the size of a walnut.
Then when they open they are crazy!

Our expanded veggie garden is starting to take shape. We have some lettuce that is looking like lettuce. I've got carrots, green onions, beans, peas and chives that have all started to take shape. Later today I'm going to transplant the last of the starts into the garden. I've got 2 types of tomatoes, basil and egg plant to get into the garden. The temps have been too cold for them, so they have been hanging out inside. It's time for them to become outside plants. To date, the only thing growing in our garden that wasn't started by me from seed is a garlic plant. I'll get some pics soon to bore you all with our crops. It's the best I can do since we don't have puppies or chickens like the rest of the clan.

I love your flowers. The color is really pretty. Sounds like you are going to have a busy planting day.

It's so pretty! I think ornamentals grow so much better up there than here, and they get such amazing colors.
