Saving money and the Mets

So, our trial of Direct TV is coming to an end tomorrow. We never really wanted to get it, but last season, with MLB claiming the baseball package was only going to be available on Direct TV, we made the switch. One of the deals we made before leaving NY was that Dave would have access to the Mets. Period. So, Direct TV it was!

Our deal hasn't changed, but with the possibility of Dave going back to school we were looking for ways to downsize sooner rather than later and digital cable and DVR was one of the ones that made the downsize list. Tomorrow we go back to regular TV and will have the major networks and a few other random ones. To satisfy the Mets requirement we'll buy the computer MLB package they have. Dave will still be able to watch the Mets, but it will be on a smaller screen up in the office.

Here's the catch ... during our snow day on Monday we made all of the switch-a-roos. Direct TV was told to cancel, Comcast told to set up service. Then on Tuesday baseball news found Johan Santana (the top pitcher available .... like I knew either?!) and the Mets in a probable deal! Dave was excited and crushed at the same time! Mets good ... our TV situation bad!

He's seemed to have made peace with the fact that we'll have to see the games on our computer and was excited by the fact that the trade deal is finalized today. I know the deal is final b/c (1) Dave called me at work to tell me.... (2) later in the same conversation he asked if he'd told me that the Santana deal was done .... (3) he's already talked to his family and was really, really excited when I came home ... and (4) there are post-it notes in our office with random stats on Santana. Evidently, reading all about him and the deal wasn't enough! I think he's planning on sharing all of the details with me later! Lucky me!

Unrelated to the Mets, we are also changing our phone service to a Voice-Over IP service. Our phone service will go through our computer .... it was 1/2 of the price we are currently paying. My work recently switch to a voIP service and it's been great .... we'll see how our service goes.

As Dave would say, "You gotta believe!" Dave also sends his apologies to This Land for getting Santana from the Twins!

When I heard about this deal I knew Dave was going to be high fiving everyone. Let's hope this is the Mets year.

Isn't Santana that singer guitar-player guy?

At least the Twins sent someone to the National League for one, instead of just to the Yankees...

We could now get the Comcast voip service, but with winter we get power outages of various lengths. Today, 2 hours. Last week, 36 hours. With viop, no power, no phone, and that could be a problem.

That makes sense for you with the power outages. Dave thinks if you don't have power, talking on the phone is the least of your worries. This from a guy that's not used to roughing it!
