Finally, Snow on the Valley Floor!!

Snow is not rare to Oregon, but it is rare to Eugene. Eugene is located in the Willamette Valley, nestled in between the Coast & Cascade mountain ranges. Low cloud cover in the winter usually acts as a sort of blanket over the valley and temperatures are usually pretty mild here in the winter. The snow here tends to dump in the mountains, usually leaving little if any on the valley floor. In our two years here, we have only seen a few snowflakes. Nothing to get too excited about. The past two weeks, though, have been clear and cold. Finally, this morning we woke up to a winter wonderland! It's been snowing steady all day here. It looks like we already have 4-6" out there. Sara and I went out for a long walk around our neighborhood earlier. It's so peaceful and beautiful! We love the snow. We also made our very first snowman together. He lives in our back yard. We have not named him yet...

So pretty! And you name your Christmas tree, but not your snowman?? What's up with that?

I have to say, we've never made a snowman! What slackers. And now you guys have made the world's cutest snowman, so there's no way we'd try and compete...

And notice how I didn't say anything about how handy it must be to have a hat to fit Mr. Snowman!

Thanks for thinking our snowman, which we named Lee because of his broccoli nose, is cute! I'm partial to his rosemary arms! We weren't expecting to make a snowman today, so we had to scrounge around to come up with the necessary accessories. I thought it was a good use of lemons too!

Unfortunately, late this afternoon we realized that Lee Snowman's lower portion was starting to melt. So, we rushed to find a piece of scrap sheet metal and affixed it with some some duct tape. Oh, and we are praying too.

So fun! I know why we haven't built a snowman. Gus would jump on him like a pile of rakes leaves. Enjoy your white weather!

Don't post any pictures of Lee as he is melting - that would be really sad

Yeah, it is a little sad to watch. So far we've decided he just looks like he's reclining a bit.

Depending on the weather tomorrow, he may be the headless snowman.

But, he has been great while he lasts!
