Our first Thanksgiving cooking adventure ...

This is our first Thanksgiving that we've done the cooking ... all of the cooking. In years past we've been at some family members house and maybe added a side dish, but most often we just added our appetite. Yesterday, we did it all. Dave was responsible for the turkey (12.73 pounds for 3 people) and I did the sides and desert. We had fun cooking and having Retired Mama as a guest. I got nearly all of the recipes out of one Sunset magazine and they were all tasty. Dave's turkey was yummy! He did have a problem with the gravy, but I'm not a gravy fan so I didn't even miss it! I don't think my execution was all that, but it wasn't terrible. The stuffing was a cornbread, apple & bacon concoction with hard apple cider. It was very tasty, but overcooked and dried out. The cranberry sauce that I've made before was too runny. The sweet potatoes were oddly good - given the fact that we don't really like sweet potatoes! They really didn't have any business tasting as good as they did ... and it wasn't just because of the merengue topping since I burned that! And there were rolls with pureed pumpkin in the dough. Sounds a bit odd, but downright tasty.
For desert there was a cheese cake w/sliced oranges in a syrupy topping. All in all, it was a fun day and great to spend it with family.

Nice photos of the Coast, also. BTW, who was that woman with short silver hair? I didn't recognize her...

Does look like a nice spread. Nice photos too. Two questions:
1) Where's the photo of feet?
2) Is it just me, or does anybody else think starfish are creepy?

Just you. On both counts.

No photos of feet, weasels, or dingies.

Not sure who the silver haired lady is ... we just tired of guessing who mom was at the airport and brought this nice lady home.

I would go with creepy for star fish ... I actually think they are pretty amazing. And I've never seen so many in one place before. I guess we can stay clear of the beach at low tide during your next OR visit!
