So, today I got to go to my first football game at Autzen Stadium here in Eugene. The hometown Ducks played PAC-10 rival Washington. What an experience! Thanks to a co-worker & friend who has season tickets, I had a great view just 18 rows back at the north goal line. I must say, this was the most unique sporting event that i've ever been to. Boy do they love their Ducks here in Oregon. This was easily the loudest crowd that i've ever heard. Whenever the Huskies had the ball, and especially on third down, the whole stadium was on their feet and yelling. It seriously hurt my ears once or twice. I had a blast!

The Ducks won handily. --d
You aren't going to paint your new house green & yellow now are you?
No, absolutely not! But, we are considering a sculpture of a Duck holding aloft the sword Excalibur.
Just to be clear, there is no WE in that consideration! - S
With what appendage does a duck hold a sword, anyway?
Glad you had fun! Here in This Land, we love Cal games, although, in the cause of full disclosure, Cal passed out leaflets at the Ducks game explaining to the new-found Cal fans when to yell. But it's a bright crowd and they didn't have to pass them out again last night when UCLA came to town.
72,000 fans in full voice is a pretty impressive force!
You're aware that ducks are birds, right?
That's a fantastic question. Since ducks truly don't have arms, i'm sure a knightly duck could wield a sword with its beak.
I am aware that ducks are birds. I actually like ducks. Can't explain it. but, i've always liked ducks. they seem to be the friendliest bird that i can think of. Besides, sculptured ducks don't generally get the urge to thrash out at your eyes with their claws. i've never heard of any such incident anyway.
Autzen only seats 58,000 fans or so. So, i wonder if Cal's stadium is louder. But, then there's the whole acoustics thing. Maybe you guys can come up for the game next year and do a comparison.
We would love to. (And not just to see the game!) Also next year Cal will play UCLA in the Rose Bowl on Oct. 20. Sonnjea went with us last year, and we discovered that the Rose Bowl is simply a great place to tailgate. Acres of parking (on golf courses that surround the stadium) and people BBQ and hang out. We said then tht it would be fun to all do it together. Obviously I don't know if schedules will allow it (or if the Kitchen would want us all there at the same time!) but if it ever worked out it would be a blast.
That would be awesome!
Sorry, we have plans that weekend...
Ha.
Hey NSO, do we need them to be there?
No we don't need them. If they have plans their house will be available to crash at. I look enough like Sonnjea that the neighbors wouldn't even notice the breaking in part.
It wouldn't be as much fun, of course...
Was that Dave or Sara claiming to look like me, I wonder?
Cal plays September 29 in Eugene and Oct. 20 in LA. Birds, Bears and Bruins, baby. Let's do it. Getting tickets to the Oregon/Cal game is going to be tricky. Good thing we're tricksy hobbits.
has anyone told AD that hobits are gay? Not that there is anything wrong with that. Especially since Scott and Dave have special feelings.
Yes but tricksy hobbitses go both ways...
Dave - check out the European Delivery option on the BMW web site. You order your car 3 months ahead, pick it up in Munich, save $3K, and they still ship it over after you've driven through Italy on a second honeymoon...
Are you trying to send us to the poor house? Even if you are, I appreciate that you added in the 2nd Italian honeymoon!
You've just discovered my dream.
(don't think sara's quite onboard just yet, though)
Hopefully the Poor House has a garage so you can park the nifty new BMW inside...
That's my evil plot -- take over the payments!
